Welcome to Barnstormers

We are delighted that you have chosen to visit our site and hope you find it useful and informative. Our team at Barnstormers is passionate about historical farm structures from tobacco barns, loft barns, dairy barns, stables, tool sheds, buggy houses, smoke houses, farm houses, well houses and even outhouses, you name we’ve reclaimed it from the farm. We get asked all the time, why do work so hard to reclaim this wood. We love it when we’re asked this.

First, we are very intrigued by the history of the American Farm, these farms shaped our nation from the very start. Families put everything they had on the line and it was up to the farm whether they survived or not. Their farms started with the buildings they constructed and strategically placed on their precious ground and that’s where it all starts for us.

Barnstormers: Reclaimed, Renewed, RestoredThese buildings were built to protect their livestock, their crops and equipment. They were built with materials most of the time that was harvested right from the farm on which they stood. Materials that had to be purchased rarely came from more than a few miles away. These craftsmen fashioned trees into structural timbers, rafters, joists, plank siding and flooring.

They were strategic in their purpose and constructed with great detail and quality and many have stood well over 100 years. But what makes us so crazy about them is that they are built out of WOOD, yes WOOD, Beautiful Old Growth Timber was harvested and turned into hand hewn beams or logs or cut into planks and these majestic old structures took shape.

We have reclaimed every species of wood imaginable from our region. Sweet gum, sassafras, sycamore, elm, persimmon, hickory, poplar, cherry, walnut, red and white oak and occasionally the now extinct chestnut. And we know just what to do with this wood and you’re going to love it.

The beauty of our reclaimed wood is in its age and what it has been exposed to whether it was the exterior siding on a barn or one of many logs in a structure or the stall door of stable. This beauty cannot be simulated, accelerated or replicated and now it gets to live on.

Using the same care in which these structures were built, Barnstormers gently deconstructs each building reclaiming as much material as possible. There is very little wasted in this process and although wood is our primary product we also reclaim metal roofing, hardware, tack and assembled items such stall doors, mangers, windows, stairs and doors and even the hewn stones that make the foundations of most of these structures. All of these items are used in various ways to create our one of kind furnishings, art and interiors.

We enjoy having folks visit our shop, if you have a specific idea in mind, give us a call and we will have some ideas of our own for you to look at. Or just drop by, you are always welcome.

We hope you enjoy your visit to our site and we look forward to hearing from you.

The Barnstormers Vision

Barnstormers is a unique business model in and of itself. BARNSTORMERS was birthed with a vision to Reclaim that which has been forgotten. It may be a 100-year old tobacco barn tucked deep in a Tennessee hollow or pre-1900 log farmhouse. The material we reclaim from these old structures far surpasses the materials used in construction today. By reclaiming this Barnstormers is able to give this wood a new life in the form of a new heirloom quality piece of furniture custom built for a family to pass for years to come or to create a warm, welcoming one of kind interior for custom homes, offices, restaurants or retail establishments.
The process is a simple one for our clients. We go through each phase from concept, design, material selection and personalized details to make sure the final deliverable is exactly what you dreamed it would be. Many times this starts with the client bringing us pictures to get design started, the piece can be built exactly as shown or modified or blended with our own designs or we can start from scratch with just an idea.

We can build virtually anything you can dream.

Included with each piece delivered is laminated or framed informational document with a picture of the structure before deconstruction, the location of the structure, a brief history of the farm and approximate age of the structure and the species of wood used. Barnstormers commonly collaborates with clients and their architects to blend our work with the project as a whole and with our Unlimited Tennessee Contractors License the options are unlimited on what we can do for you.
